Government Vows to Clamp Down on Immigration Fraud in Immigration Services Sector

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) receives a number of complaints on a daily basis from victims of bogus organisations claiming to offer help and support with Immigration issues and obtaining Visas.

The victims are often left thousands of pounds out of pocket and receive no form of help or guidance from these bogus companies, which leave their targets distressed and in desperate situations. Many of the organisations involved in this type of Immigration fraud claim to offer a number of services on behalf of the government, often resorting to bold statements saying that they are part of the Home Office or some other government institution. However, this is simply not the case; such companies have no affiliation with the government whatsoever. A spokesperson for the UKBA said: “genuine Immigration service providers are regulated by the Office of Immigration Services Commission (OISC). We advise that any person using a third party organisation for help with their Immigration matter to check the OISC website. This should be the first step in helping people to avoid falling victim to an Immigration scam. Back in September 2011, respected Immigration service provider UK Visa and Immigration published a news article highlighting an example of one such Immigration scam, which involved a so called ‘accredited’ Immigration law advisor. In a statement released by UK Visa and Immigration they said: “such actions tarnish the reputations of companies like ourselves and we want to fight back to show that there are genuine companies out there who want to help. People looking for a genuine Immigration service can search online for UK Visa and Immigration reviews.” The statement added: The UK Visa and Immigration complaints procedure offers our customers the chance to speak to us should they feel they have been let down by our service. It’s this sort of transparency that distinguishes us from bogus organisations who take no responsibility or adhere to any accountability for their actions.” Aside from tackling Immigration fraud within the Immigration services sector, the government is also targeting gangs that are involved in any kind of Immigration scam. From sham marriages through to rogue employers who constantly flout Immigration laws, the government is looking to show that abuse of the Immigration system will not be tolerated. Immigration Minister, Damian Green, said: “Our message is clear; Britain will no longer be a soft touch when it comes to any Immigration scam or any type of Immigration fraud. These issues cost the UK taxpayer extortionate amounts of money, as well as wasting valuable time in the processing of genuine applications, not to mention the resources it takes to eradicate these problems.” UK Visa and Immigration Newland House, 4th Floor, 137-139 Hagley Road, Birmingham B16 8UA PH: +44 (0) 203 511 2011 http://www.ukvisaandimmigration.co.uk UK Visa Immigration Specialist
